| Frequently Asked Questions
Is There A Swimming Pool
No. Hale Kai O'Kona is a small, exclusive development with only 8 units. There are several fine swimming, snorkeling and surfing beaches just south of our condo, two of them with on-duty lifeguards. They offer easy access in to the water, shade, picnic tables, parking. Depending on the tide, there is a nice cove a few hundred feet to the north with a sandy beach. Some of the finest and most highly rated snorkling beaches just a few minutes of our location. See the Activities Page for more information.
Does The Home Have Air Conditioning?
Yes. Our home is fully air-conditioned. The air conditioning has been pre-set to 74 degrees and can not be changed. The air conditioning is on a 6-hour timer and is turned on by rotating the timer knob to the right of the thermostat clockwise. Please allow time for the air conditioning to bring the temperature down when returning home. Attempting to defeat the pre-set themostat will result in loss of security deposit.
Is There Off-Street Parking?
Parking is available in reserved spaces and visitor spaces. Our unit has a reserved tandem parking space long enough for two vehicles. There are also 3 unassigned visitor spaces. If they are taken, additional parking is on the street.
Is There Ocean Access In Front of Condo?
Our location is directly in front of a coral and sandy break that extends well into the ocean. We often see snorkeling right in front of our property, but direct access is difficult due to wave conditions and should only be attempted by experienced swimmers at their own risk. We warn guests that the wave action and lava rock can be treacherous. There are so many other excellent supervised beaches closeby, we recommend using them. The lava rocks on the beach are also a lure for youngsters. No child should be allowed alone playing on the rocks, as the waves are sometimes strong.
Do We Need To Bring Beach Towels, Etc.?
Our home is fully equipped with linens, including beach towls for your use.
What Clothing Should We Pack?
Normal Kona dress is Island Casual. You may want to bring something slightly dressier for dinner out at the Kohala hotels, but it is certainly not necessary. Pack light and bring back some Island clothing from the many shops in town.
What If I Forget To Bring Something?
Don't worry. Between Wal-Mart, Hilo Hattie, Long's Drugstore, Macy's Department Store, and the many other local shops in town, any forgotten necessity is available.
Is There a TV, DVD, VHS In The Home?
We have TV with local cable, DVD, VHS and CD players.
Will We Need Any Kitchen Equipment?
Our kitchen is fully equipped with stove, refrigerator, oven, microwave, coffee maker, toaster and all utensils.
Can We Barbeque On The Lanai?
No. Due to fire regulations, no barbequeing of any kind is allowed on the lanais. There is a lava rock wall a few feet from the lanai that may be used to place a small hibachi-type barbeque for cooking. Any barbeque must be removed from the wall by morning.
